SOS mobile app launched for Indian workers in distress

India has launched an SOS mobile app to help its distressed workers, particularly blue-collar labourers, in Dubai and Northern Emirates. The Consulate General of India in Dubai announced the launch of CGI Dubai app on the eve of the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The app has been developed in line with the Digital India project of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Khaleej Times reported.

“It will carry information about all the activities and services that we do. Whether it is consular, passport, visa, cultural or even business and commercial aspects”, said Anurag Bhushan, Consul General of India in Dubai and Northern Emirates. “It is targeted at all sections of the community but I’m particularly concerned about the blue-collar workers because of the particular circumstances they live in”, he said.
“We have this functionality of an SOS button that will allow every member of the Indian community in particularly the blue-collar workers 24×7 access to the consulate through a free call when they have any problems”, Bhushan added. The app enables a worker to make a direct call to the 24X7 toll free number of the Indian Workers’ Resource Centre (IWRC) which is in charge of helping Indian citizens in distress in the UAE. IWRC forwards workers’ issues to the missions.
“We also have a message enabled access to us. If a worker wants, he can send messages via the app. His application will be registered and a unique ID number will be generated for tracking it”, Bhushan said. “The app would enable the consulate to disseminate useful information to the Indian citizens and guide them in case of distress. We will use the awareness camps by IWRC to popularise the app among the workers,” he added.
The app guides users in case of exigency like a death case or any legal case in the UAE. It also offers features that help Indians moving to the UAE for employment of business opportunities with local information.

iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus Heavier Than Predecessors Due to 3D Touch Display

Apple's new iPhone models - the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus - are both heavier and thicker than the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, respectively. The design decision is against Apple's usual philosophy of releasing faster, lighter, and thinner devices. One would think it's because of the use of aircraft-grade aluminium 7000 series alloy metal in the new body shell, which provides better structural strength to help prevent bending. But it's something different entirely.
The aluminium body of the iPhone 6s Plus is only 2 grams heavier than its iPhone 6 Plus counterpart, as per Apple's recently published environment report, while the body of iPhone 6s is just 1 gram heavier than the body of the iPhone 6. It is the display in the new iPhone models that is to be blamed for the almost 11 percent weight gain - iPhone 6s is 14 grams heavier than the iPhone 6, while the iPhone 6s Plus is 20 grams heavier than the iPhone 6 Plus.
The 3D Touch capability the company has baked into the display is what is making the new iPhone models heavier. The company has added an additional layer to the display to measure pressure. Compared to the 12 grams the iPhone 6's display weighed, the iPhone 6s' display is 29 grams. The display on the iPhone 6s Plus weighs 40 grams compared to the 19 grams the display of the iPhone 6 Plus weighs.

Compared to the 6.9mm and 7.1mm body thickness of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, respectively, the iPhone 6s is 7.1mm thick whereas the iPhone 6s Plus has a waistline of 7.2mm.
It shouldn't matter a lot, however. The new iPhone models haven't become significantly heavier or thicker. Besides, the features the 3D Touch display offers - pressure sensitive input - should easily make up for the weight gain. Thanks to the use of 7000 series aluminium, the new handsets are supposedly stronger as well. Buyers clearly aren't too worried about this either, with the company announcing it is already on track to beat last year's record for opening weekend sales.

Unfriend your partner on Facebook 'if you want to stay together', therapist says

A therapist has come up with some unexpected advice for couples looking to strengthen their relationship - unfriend each other on Facebook.

New York-based couples counsellor Ian Kerner told PRI about how he created a Facebook account for a short period and found it negatively impacted on his marriage.

"I realised for a little while with my own wife that I didn't really want her to be my friend on Facebook. I didn't want all of that extra information. If anything, I wanted less information - I wanted more mystery and more unpredictability," he said.

"I didn't want to know that she was posting about being tired or having her third coffee for the day. So I specifically unfriended her during my brief tenure on Facebook. It's something that I do recommend to couples."

Some 1.4 billion are on Facebook as people around the world become more and more used to living their lives online.

However, Kerner said that whilst it can make you feel closer to your partner to be able to get constant updates on their lives, it's important to leave a little mystery.

"There's something about being in a relationship where you want some unknowningness and some unpredictability," he added.
